Social Awareness Causes and Campaigns: Think Beyond Bracelets

  1. 1. Adopt' a local organization's Wish List and hold a wish list drive to collect items from the list. You don't have to collect everything on the list...every donation, no matter how small, makes a difference!
    • Promote your drive in advance to boost donations! Create posters and flyers that stand out by using an eye catching design and compelling facts about the organization and the issues they address (The organization you are working with might provide this information or you can find it on their website). Ask your school or organization leadership if you can make announcements over the PA system and place an advertisement in their newsletter promoting your drive. Put your social network to GOOD use...promote your drive on Facebook, Twitter, etc.

  1. 2. Create Social Media Profiles For Your Cause Campaign
We suggest starting with Twitter and Facebook and adding other social networks later. Don’t forget to include a link to your campaign website. Next, connect with your target audience and ask your network of friends to help promote your campaign.
    • Generate Engagement
Get the conversation started…engage your audience via social media by promoting your cause with compelling stories and pictures. Get to know your audience and find out how they can help!
    • Encourage Action
Promote opportunities to get involved with your cause campaign or with organizations that address your cause.

  1. 4. Seniors face many problems on a day-to-day basis, including loneliness, boredom and non-productivity. Are you crafty? Lead a class in the craft room. Like games? Call the numbers on bingo night. With just a little effort, anyone can make a real difference.

  1. 5. Helping veterans involves tackling a multitude of readjustment issues confronting returning soldiers, including: physical disabilities, Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder, unemployment and homelessness. There are a number of local organizations that focus on the specialized needs of veterans.

  1. 6. National statistics show that the number of homeless remains high. As many as 3.5 million people experience homelessness in a given year, about 842,000 in any given week. Collecting and donating basic necessity items to a homeless shelter is one way to help.

  1. 7. Human Rights issues encompass civil, political, cultural, social, and economic rights. Action to promote or protect human rights can come in many forms, like protesting racial or age discrimination or fighting poverty.
